Room 731 is a psychological short film centered on schizophrenia and unresolved grief, inspired by Shutter Island. Set and filmed in Murree, a remote hill station in northern Pakistan, the story follows Faisal, a photo developer who lives a seemingly normal life but is silently battling schizophrenia. After losing his wife during childbirth due to inadequate medical facilities, he continues to believe she is still alive, living with her in a delusion.
The narrative unravels when he photographs her for a shoot, only to discover she doesn’t appear in the developed film. The shock leads to his sudden death. The film ends with a flashback revealing the emotional trauma that triggered his condition.
Room 731 was shot with Lahore-based actors and screened at Olomopolo Media in Lahore,a space dedicated to mental health advocacy. The audience praised the film for its emotionally raw storytelling and distinct departure from conventional student films.
